Success for Alpha at Darley Good News for Knightsbridge

A year ago Alpha was not hot, but he has certainly changed that as his 1st offspring head to the ready to run sales. Despite not being a headline stallion at the time Knightsbridge invested in 2 closely related to Alpha.

A yearling filly Tuscan Light by SCINTILLO from Moments I Treasure ( half sister to Alpha) and Making Moments, Making Moments is a daughter of 2yo Breeders Cup winner WAR PASS from the mare Moments I Treasure .

Making Moments is now in foal to .

Dam of both fillies, Moments I Treasure is a very interesting mare indeed .

Firstly she is a ½ sister to multiple Gr1 winner in the US , ALPHA , 6 wins , $1,815.543. He stands at stud for Darley in the USA.

She is a full sister to Lavender Sky who was purchased for $340,000 as an empty broodmare by renowned bloodstock agent & founder of both the Secretariat syndicate & Ashford Farms , later Coolmore Stud in the USA.

In doing so he commented “ they also have to be out of the blue hen families, which this mare certainly is “ .

It is a fantastic fillies family . This filly’s 4th dam is KAMAR , champion 3yo filly , Gr1 Canadian Oaks , later to become 1990 Broodmare of the Year.

Her daughters GEORGEOUS , multiple Gr1 winner , incl Hollywood Oaks , earnings of $1.2m and SEASIDE ATTRACTION , a $1m weanling 30 years ago was the winner of the Kentucky Oaks , Gr1.

Moments I Treasure has left 3 winners to date incl city winner Bourgeoisie and filly Cape Treasure a Singapore winner who was showing enough to be seriously considered for the Gr1 Singapore against the colts .

It shouldn’t come as a big surprise that the early two-year-olds are turning heads and stopping clocks as he was very precocious as well at the beginning of his racing career. He broke his maiden at first asking, winning by six lengths at Saratoga, and then followed up with a second-place finish in the G1 Champagne. Alpha would go on to to win the G1 Travers, just like his sire Bernardini, and also the G1 Woodward.

But back to his two-year-olds. Three of his juveniles that passed through the ring at Ocala’s April sale brought prices of $350,000, $150,000, and $120,000. Not bad for a that stands for $5,000.

Alpha’s $350,000 two-year-old under tack at OBS

His top priced lot was hip 986 that hailed from the Eddie Woods consignment and was purchased by Linda Rice acting as agent. Out of Stakes winner Silence Dogood, the colt put in a brisk 21.1 workout at the under tack show, the third fastest time recorded.

The fastest time of all the workouts was registered by Alpha’s second-highest priced sales , hip 367, consigned by Jose Munos. This colt’s dam, Forever Valentine, has produced Stakes winner Force and G3-placed Beau’s Valentine. Shaikh Rashed Humaid Rashed Al Nuami went to $150,000 to take the colt home.

Another colt that caught the eyes of potential buyers was hip 67 consigned by Becky Thomas’s Sequel Bloodstock. Out of the Stakes-placed mare Back In The Shade, David Meah, acting as agent, made the purchase on behalf of Team D, Circle B and John Holmes.

All in all, Alpha was the second-leading freshman sire at the OBS April Sale with an average of $165,000. Strong Mandate received top honors with Uncaptured, He’s Had Enough, and Noble Mission rounding out the top five.
